Markos Kampanis’ involvement with the Odyssey began in 2018. This is when he started creating a series of works inspired by the Homeric Epic, twenty of which are present in the exhibition. It is a painterly journey, shorter than the Homeric one, based on a parallel imaginary geography conceived by the artist in the aftermath of the Homeric one.

The exhibition core is a four-volume artist book created by painting over a digital reprint of the 15th century Harley MS 6325 manuscript, belonging to the British Library. Around the four volumes, eight small artist books are exhibited each one relating to a specific narrative or a rhapsody of the epic poem, while paintings of real or invented maps based on the route of Odysseus and Telemachus complement the exhibition. The artworks are created on paper or wood with acrylics, pencils and extensive use of collage.

In addition, the incorporation of drawings, sculptures and oils by Nikos Hadjikyriakos – Ghika, that belong to the Benaki Museum collection initiate a distinctive conversation with the works of Markos Kampanis.

Opening of the exhibition is on January 29, 2025 at 20:00.
