This study presents the struggle and strenuous efforts of a Greek from Egypt, Panayiotis Aristophron, an ardent admirer of Plato, to locate and uncover the School of the great philosopher – the famous Academy (1930 – 1939). His vision was embraced by the newly
founded Academy of Athens (1926), which aspired, through this discovery, to enhance its prestige as the successor and heir of Plato’s Academy.

Through a wealth of archival and photographic material, we become witnesses of Panayiotis Aristophron’s personal odyssey in his struggle to achieve his goal. It also offers a vivid picture of personalities from the country’s political life sphere, members of the scientific community and ordinary residents of the Agios Tryphon neighbourhood, on the
eve of the 2nd world War.
