Starting winter term 2026/27, a new master’s program, „Antike Welten – Interdisziplinäre Altertumswissenschaften“, will begin at Freie Universität Berlin. The new consecutive two‑year MA is an attractive, future‑oriented program that brings the diverse opportunities of Berlin’s research landscape into university teaching according to the principles of academic depth, interdisciplinary integration, and freedom of choice. The curriculum offers a broad range of classes taught in English, proficiency in both German (DSH 2) and English (B2) is required for successful admission.
The Egyptology specialisation provides advanced knowledge in archaeology, philology, and cultural history from Egypt’s earliest periods to Late Antiquity.
In addition to the Egyptology profile, specialisations are also offered in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Archaeoinformatics, Classical Archaeology, Prehistoric Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology, and the History of Knowledge in the Ancient World. Because of the high degree of elective freedom in the program’s so‑called “supplementary area”, students can not only further sharpen their chosen specialisation but also take advantage of the wide range of courses offered by other disciplines to tailor their individual curriculum.
Application period: April 20th – August 15th 2026
