Call for Papers for the Online Workshop “The Greek Lexicon of Ships and Navigation. Wuthering Seas. Shipwrecks, Storms, and Atmospheric Phenomena in the Greek Maritime Lexicon”.

Within the framework of The Greek Lexicon of Ships and Navigation Project (https://lessiconavi.sns.it), the 2nd online workshop, focused on shipwrecks and atmospheric phenomena threatening navigation, is planned for January 2027 (further details will be provided in due course).

Here is the link to the full CfP: https://lessiconavi.sns.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/CfP_LGNN_9_2026.pdf

PhD students and early-career researchers in Classics are invited to participate in a discussion of these topics through the historical and linguistic analysis of semantically related Greek terms. Applicants are therefore required to choose at least two from selected groups of entries (see Annex 1 to the CfP). Papers may be given in Italian, English, or French, and must not exceed 20 minutes.

Following the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to publish on the project’s website, after a peer review process, all the entries of the group they have worked on. All published entries are assigned a DOI and count as contributions in collective volume. In this final written version, entries may be drafted in Italian, English, French, Spanish, or German.

Please communicate your choice and submit your academic CV to [email protected] no later than October 31st, 2026.
