On 15–16 May 2026, the German Archaeological Institute in Athens (DAI), in collaboration with the Eleonora-Schamberger-Foundation, will host the symposium “Cosmopolities in Antiquity and Modernity – Mechanisms of Multiethnicities” at the Art Space Pythagorion on Samos, to which we would like to invite you. The conference focuses on deepening our understanding of multiethnicity and examining the emergence, organisation and lived experiences of intercultural contact zones in the past and present. Particular attention will be paid to the people in these spaces, their lived realities, and the cultural, social and religious dynamics of exchange.
The symposium is open to the public, and interested attendees are always very welcome.
We are also planning to broadcast the event in a hybrid format.
