Andrew F. Stewart’s professional accomplishments are well known. He was a bold and discerning thinker, a prolific author, an accomplished archaeologist, an excellent teacher, a supportive advisor, and a wonderful colleague.

For donkey’s years, Andy Stewart was a summer touchstone at the American School and in the Athenian Agora. All who came to the School knew where he could be found: researching sculptural fragments in the Stoa of Attalos, lecturing for the summer programs, staying in the (cooler) basement of Loring Hall, and presiding over Ouzo Hour on the Alumni/ae Porch. Friends and colleagues have commemorated Andy’s presence at the American School by naming a room in Loring Hall in his honor. In this celebration, colleagues, students, and friends, including Erich Gruen, Kristen Seaman, Rebecca Levitan, Seth Estrin, S. Rebecca Martin, and Paul Scotton share reflections about Andy, and three experts and colleagues in Greek sculpture, Iphigeneia Leventi, Georgia Kokkorou-Alevras, and Aileen Ajootian present the festschrift, ΠΡΩΤΑΓΩΝΙΣΤΗΣ, Essays in Memory of Andrew Stewart, edited by Dora Katsonopoulou.
