The development of the cult image in Greek temple architecture

Friday, May 13, 2016

Jan-Henrik Hartung (PhD candidate in “The International Max Planck Research School for the Anthropology, Archaeology and History of Eurasia (IMPRS ANARCHIE)” at the Max Planck institute for social anthropology in Halle (Saale)) will lead a discussion on the topic: “From mystical statue to piece of art. The development of the cult image in Greek temple architecture.”

This will be the first of a new series of events that will begin at the British School at Athens: an informal material culture discussion group with a flexible format and an emphasis on round table discussion of current or work-in-progress research.

The form of this meeting will be a presentation of around 45 minutes by the speaker, followed by group discussion of the topic presented. After the talk there will be an opportunity for further discussion over drinks on the terrace. The meeting will be held in the Finlay Room, and attendees will be able to enter through the terrace.
