The Centre for Spartan & Peloponnesian Studies welcomes expressions of interest (EoI) from outstanding early career scholars who wish to apply for a prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship through the University of Nottingham.
We are inviting EoIs from eligible candidates whose research projects and interests fall within the remit of the CSPS: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/csps/about-csps.aspx. Individual staff profiles and their expertise can be found at https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/humanities/departments/classics-and-archaeology/research/find-an-expert.aspx . We also collaborate with the Nottingham-based CADRE – Centre for Ancient Drama and its Reception, CLABS – Centre for Byzantine and Late Antique Studies and the new AHRC RiCHES-funded N-MESH Laboratories (The Nottingham Materials and Environment Science and Heritage Laboratories, a partnership between the Department of Classics and Archaeology, with its newly refurbished labs and equipment, and other facilities across the University, including laboratories and capabilities in Life Sciences and in Medicine and Health Sciences).
Eligibility – All candidates must hold a doctorate by the time they take up the Fellowship. Those who are or have been registered for a doctorate at any time may apply only if they have submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination by 4pm on the closing date of 20 February 2025. Candidates must not be registered for degrees, professional or vocational qualifications at the time of commencing the Fellowship. Candidates who have held or currently hold postdoctoral positions to pursue their own independent research totalling 3 or more years are not eligible to apply.
All candidates must have submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination not more than four years prior to the application closing date. Hence those who formally submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination before 20 February 2021 are not eligible unless they have since had a career break. Applicants must either hold a degree (any degree) from a UK higher education institution at the time of taking up the Fellowship or at the time of the application deadline must hold an academic position in the UK (e.g. fixed-term lectureship, fellowship) which commenced no less than 4 months prior to the closing date.
Duration – Fellowships are tenable for 3 years on a full-time basis. The Trust will support requests to hold the award part-time over a proportionately longer period for health-related reasons, disability or childcare commitments.
Expressions of interest – Candidates should contact their prospective academic mentor at Nottingham and Dr Chrysanthi Gallou, CSPS Director and Classics & Archaeology Director of Research ([email protected]) asap and no later than 3pm, Friday 20th November. If the academic mentor agrees to support their application, candidates will be requested to complete and return an internal application form by 3pm, Wednesday 4 December 2024 – late submissions will not be considered.
