The Department of Antiquities, Deputy Ministry of Culture announces that in November 2025, two Cypriot antiquities were delivered to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington DC. Both antiquities had been identified in online auctions by Archaeological Officers of the Department of Antiquities responsible for monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities on the internet and were withdrawn following consultation with the auction houses.
The antiquities consist of a Juglet and a Jug of Bichrome III ware that date to the Cypro-Geometric III period (900-750 BC).
The Department of Antiquities would like to express its gratitude to Brunk Auctions and to Nadeau’s Auction Gallery Inc. for their voluntary return of the antiquities to their country of origin, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington DC for their cooperation and the coordination of the repatriation procedures.
