“From Alexander to Justinian: Greece from the Hellenistic to Roman Ages”

The fourth century BC saw the conquests of Alexander the Great in the East but by the second century BC the increasing influence of Rome to the West culminated in the sack of Corinth in 146BC. Greece was incorporated into a Roman Empire that, by the second century AD, encircled the Mediterranean. Our morning concludes with a glimpse of Byzantine culture and discussion of the legacy of ancient Greece in today’s Western society.

Helen Nicholson will be offering a half-day programme providing an engaging overview of the archaeology, art and architecture of the Greco-Roman world.

10:00am-12:00pm: The Hellenistic Age to the Romans
