A free event focused on ancient Egyptian wooden funerary models will take place on Saturday 9th November 2024, at 1.00 pm-5.30 pm (UK time).
All interested are invited to a series of talks exploring ancient Egyptian wooden funerary models to eearn about their significance, function, display, and production through
a series of short presentations.
Sam Powell (PhD candidate, University of Birmingham) will present ‘Ancient Egyptian Wooden Funerary Figures’,
As part of this study afternoon, Sam will provide a brief overview to her ongoing PhD research, in particular highlighting the launch her research catalogue as a publicly accessible online collection of all known examples of ancient Egyptian wooden funerary figures held in UK institutions. This session will include an overview of the catalogue, the key features within the software, and some highlights of her research so far.
Sam is a PhD student at Birmingham University researching ancient Egyptian wooden funerary figures. She holds MA qualifications in Archaeology (UCL) and Egyptology (Swansea University). She worked for English Heritage for several years, and is Director of Abaset Collections Ltd, a software company providing bespoke online catalogues and archives for museums, institutions and researchers. During her undergraduate study, she volunteered at the Egypt Centre, Swansea, leading to a passion for object-centred research and accessibility of collections.
