The publication Iznik Ceramics at the Benaki Museum is a comprehensive catalogue of the Benaki Museum’s important Iznik Collection. A large part of the collection was acquired by the brothers Antonis and Alexandros Benakis during the first decades of the 20th century, mainly in Egypt, and was presented at the temporary exhibition of Alexandria in 1925. The collection was prominently displayed in the Benaki Museum when it first opened in 1931 and since them it was enriched by the contribution of other collectors such as Damianos Kyriazis.
The Collection today includes a series of important ceramics, some of which bear Greek inscriptions, and a rare collection of ceramic sherds from Istanbul. Although parts of the collection were already known and published, it is the first time that the collection is published in its entirety.
