The Ηistory of Greek Printing (15th-20th century) through the Collections of the Gennadius Library

Thursday, May 10-25, 2018

The Senior Librarian of the Gennadius Library, Irini Solomonidi, presents “The Ηistory of Greek Printing (15th-20th century) through the Collections of the Gennadius Library.” The program is part of the activities of Athens 2018 World Book Capital.

An important bibliophile collector, John Gennadius had a strong passion for Hellenism and a special interest in typography. The various stages of the birth, evolution and history of Greek typography from the 15th to the 20th century, are made evident through the books he collected and publications on the history of the book, but also in his scrapbooks where he assembled specimens of printing, ex-libris, printer’s marks, and book bindings. The program includes a book display of items from the Gennadius collections, projection of videos about the Library and the history of typography, and special tours/presentations.

The event will take place at the Gennadius Library Main Reading Room (61 Souidias St, Kolonaki) from May 10 to May 25, during the Library’s opening hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday: 9:00-17:00
