Krokean stone in Rome

THE RAPE OF HYLAS BY THE NYMPHS, opus sectile panel made of “krokeatis lithos” (Krokean stone). Roman artwork, first half of the 4th century. From the basilica of Junius Bassus on the Esquiline Hill. Palazzo Massimo alle Terme.

Hylas was abducted by nymphs in Mysia, during the Argonautic expedition.
