In this day and age, female sexuality is seen as belonging to the field of medicine. It was not always so. In ancient Greece and Rome, birth, abortion and contraception lay in the hands of women. Since medicine became the province of men who were paid to practice the profession, female complaints such as the menstrual period, pregnancy or contraception began to be thought of as ailments. Female sexuality suffers from being thought of as one and the same thing as reproduction. Menopause, as a subject is a taboo used as a weapon in the war against the female sex, while the cycle of the female menopause is not even considered important enough for further investigation. In short, female sexuality suffers from being spoken about by irresponsible men talking about a body that is not their own.
