After the successful event of the 1st Sculpture Symposium in 2016, the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) and the Region of the Southern Aegean are jointly organizing the 2nd Sculpture Symposium from Tuesday July 17 till Saturday August 4 at the Museum of Marble Crafts in Pirgos on the island of Tinos. The Symposium overseen by sculptor Dimitris Skalkotos is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The Symposium opens on Tuesday July 17 at 19:30.

During the Symposium, the four established artists Kyriakos Rokos, Leonidas Halepas, Haris Koutsouris and Panagiotis Lambrou with two graduates and two students of the Fine Art School of Panormos, Tinos, will work for over a fortnight and create original works in marble. These works reflecting various artistic approaches will be displayed in the Museum grounds.

Throughout the Symposium (daily, except for Tuesdays, from 10:00 to 18:00), the public will be able to visit the specially organized Museum grounds while the artists are making their works so as to talk with them and get more closely acquainted with the art of sculpture.

The 2nd Sculpture Symposium will highlight and support Tinos’ particular cultural profile, since the Marble Craft of Tinos was registered in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015.

The 2nd Sculpture Symposium is one of the events of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
