A reminder that the deadline to apply for these bursaries is 1 December. The Herculaneum Society is offering two scholarships of £1500 for registered postgraduate students or postdoctoral researchers working on topics related to Herculaneum (its environs, literature, history and reception; papyrology including imaging; archaeology and archaeological science; heritage management; education or outreach concerning these subjects). One award will be for Herculaneum papyrology while the other can be for work on any relevant topic. More details can be found at http://www.herculaneum.ox.
Applications should be sent to [email protected] and will include a description (one side, approx. 500 words) of your research and the use to which the award would be put; your institutional affiliation (e.g. doctoral student in papyrology at the University of X); a brief (one side) CV; and the name, title and address of one referee. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of the Trustees of the Society. Successful applicants will receive half the award at the outset of their work and the remainder upon receipt of a satisfactory statement of progress halfway through. They will be expected to give a talk to the Society on their work, and to write an account for our Newsletter. Please direct any inquiries to [email protected].
