150 years of the German Archaeological Institute at Athens

Friday, March 23, 2024

As part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the German Archaeological Institute at Athens, the exhibition “Vor Ort. 150 Jahre Deutsches Archäologisches Institut Athen” will be inaugurated on 22 March 2024, at 6 p.m., in the historic building of the Institute in Athens. The exhibition presents the eventful history of the Athenian department and its various fields of activity. It also illustrates the role of the DAI Athens as a cultural mediator in the German-Greek exchange. Old and new data from projects »on site« (»vor Ort«) in Greece, together with the rich holdings of the library and the photographic and historical archives, form an indispensable basis for numerous projects on current topics.

Andreas Kindl, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Greece, and Dr. Olympia Vikatou, General Director for Antiquities and Cultural Heritage at the Greek Ministry of Culture, will deliver the opening addresses.

The events will take place in hybrid format: you may attend either in-person at the DAI Athens (without registration) or online via zoom. In order to attend online, please register via this link:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing the final link to the lecture.
