Eleutherna on Crete: An Early Iron Age Site

Friday, May 10, 2013

Nicholas Stampolidis, Professor of Archaeology, University of Crete, and Director, Museum of Cycladic Art, will give a lecture on Eleutherna, one of the capital cities of ancient Crete, during the time period of the Homeric epics (ca. 1000–600 B.C.), revealing how its artifacts—made from various metals, clay, and glass—reveal connections between the city and the greater ancient world.

The lecture is part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual series “Lectures in Cycladic and Ancient Greek Art, ” and has been made possible by the Museum of Cycladic and Ancient Greek Art (Athens, Greece), in fondest memory of its founder Dolly Goulandris.
