George Kordis, Logbook

October 16 - December 31, 2020

The Museum of Byzantine Culture presents the temporary exhibition “Logbook”. The painter George Kordis engages in a visual dialogue with George Seferis, specifically with the third part of Seferis’ Logbook, a collection of poems inspired by Cyprus. In Kordis’ work, the entire history of the island is unfurled like a canvas that enables the artist to invoke figures from beyond the boundaries of space and time, transcending any correspondence or analogy, but always preserving their humanity. Like the poet, Kordis is also enthralled by history yet keeps his gaze fixed on life itself. George Kordis’ “Logbook” has been written in digital print on the foundations of the Byzantine system of painting which has, however, been adapted to the conditions of today and to the terms of contemporary art. Exhibited at the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the “pages” of his logbook consist of 17 digital paintings, printed in giclée on archival canvas.

This exhibition is curated by the art historian George Mylonas.

Entrance is free of charge.
