Harvesting the Sea

29th-31st May 2014

“Harvesting the Sea: Aegean Societies and Marine Animals in Context. The Intersection of Sciences and the Humanities”

The Wiener Laboratory of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens organizes a multidisciplinary conference, which will be held in Athens, from 29th to 31st May 2014. The conference explores the different ways of engagement with the marine world by communities that lived around the Aegean Sea from prehistoric through historic periods. The human-sea relationship in the Aegean will be pursued through the theme of exploitation of marine animals, as highlighted by a range of disciplines, including archaeology, ancient history and philology, as well as more recently introduced ones, such as underwater archaeology, zooarchaeology and bioarchaeology.
