Riches in the Ground. How Did Ancient Greeks Hide Their Wealth?

Tuesday 17th November 2020

Riches in the Ground. How Did Ancient Greeks Hide Their Wealth? A lecture by Dr. Frédérique Duyrat.

This talk will explore, on the basis of archaeological evidence and literary and documentary sources, the question of how private individuals in the Greek world stored their wealth. It will focus on metal, one of the most durable of goods and the only one that is well documented by texts and archaeology. It will explore the reasons to hide riches and the way to do it, from the containers used to the many places that the Ancients considered safe.

“Riches in the Ground…” is held online (through MS Teams) and is organized by the Oxford University Numismatic Society. To attend click here.
