On the occasion of the 400th anniversary from the birth of Francesco Morosini, the so-called Peloponnesian (1619-1694), the Gennadius Library is organizing a symposium on the legacy of Morosini in Crete, Athens, and the Peloponnese. Sixteen researchers will present unknown material and analyze already known historical sources through new perspectives.
The symposium, which is part of the initiative Tempo Forte 2020 under the aegis of the Embassy of Italy in Greece, complements the exhibition on the same subject in the Ioannis Makriyannis Wing and develops around three axes: the War of Candia (1645-1669) and its implications for the area, the importance of the occupation of Athens and the destruction of the Parthenon in 1687, and the presence of the Venetians in the Peloponnese (1685-1715).
There will be simultaneous translation (Greek and English) thanks to the generous support of the US Embassy in Greece.
