The high quality paintings discovered in Vergina preceded the painted stelae of the 3rd century BC. This in no way detracts from the artistic importance of the later stelae which were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century by Apostolos Arvanitopoulos at Demetrias in Thessaly. Here we present the three stelae, of Demetrius, of Archidike and the stele of Hediste.
