Evliya Celebi was indeed the real Sinbad. Born and bred in the Sultan’s Court at the beginning of the 17th century, he made his life’s goal to travel around the Ottoman Empire of his time and beyond, getting known with a mosaic of civilizations, cultures, religions and customs. Reaching as far as Cairo, Vienna and even London, he kept detailed memoirs of his adventures in his book “Seyahatname”.

Celebi’ s adventurous life is now the subject of  an exhibition in the Benaki Museum of Islamic Art, in Thiseio, Athens, Greece. The exhibition is based on digital media and runs from the 5th of April to the 26 of June.
