The Byzantine Museum of Athens will introduce the Greek public with the intriguing culture of travelers’ groups, defined as Roma and known widely as Gypsies, thanks to an educational programme entitled “Roma Routes”. Through a series of events which include seminars, exhibitions, presentations, children’s games etc, the Roma population of Greece is invited to enter spaces they never approach, such as a museum. On the other side, non-Roma visitors are invited to explore a culture they rarely understand and abolish likewise elements of common prejudice involving “the other” . In this “trip” the Byzantine Museum is not alone as institutions from other European countries are also contributing.
Roma Routes will start this April and will continue with events throughout the summer.
