A European Capital of Culture must encourage discussion and produce knowledge on sensitive subjects featuring in its programme. These issues will be discussed at conferences and debates aimed at the general public, in the framework of “Marseille Provence 2013”.

In particular, Aix-Marseille Université will hold a series of conferences for the public on every second Tuesday of the month from February to November. A true “university for the people”, these conferences strive to pass on the latest advances in research and critical tools to better deconstruct preconceived ideas on Euro-Mediterranean current affairs. Conference topics will include “Athens and Jerusalem: reason and revelation in Mediterranean civilizations”, “Identity and religion in a world without borders”, “Citizenship in the Mediterranean”, “The sharing of water in the Mediterranean”, “Camus and the Mediterranean”, “Desire in the Mediterranean” and more.
