The 2nd Symposium of Greek Gastronomy seeks to address questions surrounding Greek food, drink, foodways, cuisines and recipes and their relationship with identity (individual, class, group, regional, ethnic, national etc) and memory through the ages.
The symposium, titled “Food, Memory & Identity in Greece and the Greek Diaspora” will be held on July 20-21 2013 at the old school in Amari. It is organized by independent researcher of the history of Greek food and gastronomy Mariana Kavroulaki and the Historical, Folkore and Archaeological Society of Crete (ILAEK).
The conference themes will be addressed by scientists and professionals, as well as by artists. An art exhibition during the conference program will provide opportunity for discussion on artists’ provoking insights.
Each conference day closes with a dinner for the registered participants.
