The Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan is looking to recruit a temporary Museum Assistant to provide additional technical and administrative support; to enable best care to be taken of the collections to ensuring their preservation, and to make the collections accessible to the public, staff and students.

The successful candidate will work with the department on the delivery of loans and touring exhibitions and the preparation of gallery refurbishments and a British Museum exhibition. This will include mount making, documentation and administration, and possibly onsite installation at other museums in the UK and internationally. You will also be required to handle objects and supply them across the Museum as necessary, recording and documenting all object moves, maintain display and storage areas, support the study room programme and monitor environmental conditions.

Required Skills

Educated to GCSE level, or equivalent, you will be a good communicator, be able to work as part of a team as well as use your own initiative and must possess a good degree of manual dexterity. Experience of working in a Museum is desirable and an understanding of best practice in collections care would be advantageous.

Full-Time Position offered through fixed term contract (up to 09 Feb 2015). Salary: £18,056 p.a. (pro rata).
