Following the “Preservation, Study, Disclosure and Valorisation of the Old Mining Complex of the Upper Valley of River Terva, Boticas” program, initiated in 2006, the Boticas Municipality and the University of Minho converged in the mutual interest of promoting the creation of the Terva Valley Archaeological Park/ PAVT, through which it ensures the study, protection and enhancement its rich historical and archaeological heritage, intending that it be constituted as an agent of sustainable development of the territory and the region, in terms of knowledge, economy and national and international tourism promotion.

The International Symposium “Ancient Mining Landscapes. Research and Cultural Enhancement in Western Europe”, organized by the University of Minho/ Archaeology Unit and the Municipality of Boticas, is part of the PAVT program to promote research and knowledge transfer.

The Symposium is divided into two themes, Research and Enhancement, through which it aims to present the state of the art of the investigations of former mining landscapes and project valorisation of cultural landscapes in Western Europe.

The Symposium will count on invited experts, who will present major conferences relating to synthesis of research on mining landscapes and conferences on projects regarding valorisation of cultural landscapes. Through application for Poster presentation, in the form of ‘peer review’, will be given the opportunity to participate to all researchers who focus on these themes.
