The Executive Committee of ASMOSIA together with the Organizing Committee invites scholars to participate in the XI International Conference of the Association, which will be held in Split (Croatia) from May 18th to May 22nd, 2015.
The Conference will deal with the traditional research fields promoted by ASMOSIA with the aim of creating a basis for an interdisciplinary discussion, which should include contributions from different scientific and archaeological approaches.
The Conference will be organized around the following sessions:
– Applications to Specific Archaeological Questions – Use of Marble
– Provenance Identification (Marble and Other Stones)
– Advances in Provenance Techniques, Methodologies and Databases
– Quarries and Geology: (Quarrying Techniques, Organization, Transport of Stones, New Quarries, Stone Carving and Dressing, Hazards to and Preservation of Quarries)
– Stone Properties, Weathering Effects and Restoration as related to diagnosis problems, matching of stone fragments and authenticity
– Pigments and Paintings on Marble
– Special Theme Session: The Use of Marble and Limestone in the Adriatic Basin in Antiquity
The Organizing Committee will take care of the Publication of the Conference Proceedings which will include posters as well the papers presented during the Conference.
Submission of the Abstracts
The abstracts should be, between 200-400 words (in English) in Word Format. They should include: title in capital letters, full name/s of the author/s, their institutions and e-mail address, as well as three keywords. The content should aim at presenting the subject matter, the objectives, the results and the conclusions of the research. Details and format for writing the abstracts will be soon available on the Conference website asmosiaxi.org . The deadline for submitting the abstracts is December 15th, 2014.
Reviewing of the abstracts
The abstracts will be assessed by reviewers composed by experts in the relative subjects according to quality and originality for acceptance. Following that and based on criteria such as state of completion of the work, innovation, wider interest, etc. they will be selected for oral or poster presentation.
Authors will be informed about the acceptance of the abstracts until February 15th, 2015.
Oral Presentations
The oral presentations cannot exceed 15 minutes and will be followed by 5 minutes of discussion. The participants are kindly requested to use Power point for their presentations.
Posters
There will be two special poster sessions during the conference of 2 hours each. In addition, the posters of each session will be up for two and a half day continuously so they can be also visited during coffee and lunch breaks.
The poster size cannot exceed cm 100 (height) x 70 (width).
Norman Herz student poster prizes
The Association offers two prizes, named after the late first ASMOSIA President, consisting of 300€ (first) and 200€ (second) for the two best student posters. Students who want to participate in the competition should declare this during abstract submission. The student posters will be evaluated by a group of experts appointed by the Executive Committee. Details will be soon available on the Conference website asmosiaxi.org .
Language
English is the official language of the Conference.
Registration fees
-Regular registration fee: 60€ (80€ after February 28th, 2015);
-Student registration fee 30€ (40€ after February 28th, 2015).
-Registration fee for accompanying person: 30€ (40€ after February 28th, 2015).
-ASMOSIA fee: 20€. This is a specially reduced membership rate compulsory for participation in the Conference and applying to all participants, including students.

Preliminary program
The works of the Conference will offer original oral and poster presentations from one, or groups of more than one author. It will last for five days and be subdivided into eight sessions. There will be optional guided tours such as: Diocletian’s Palace and the historical core of Split, archaeological site of Salona and a post conference trip on Saturday May 23rd to island of Brač (Roman and modern limestone quarries and high school for Stone Masons). The program also includes an exhibition of books and the General Assembly of ASMOSIA.
