The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS), a research institution devoted to the study of all aspects of ancient Hellenic civilization, seeks an intern to assist the Fellowships and Curricular Development (FCD) team from August 31, 2015 to January 31, 2016.
Part-time, 10-15 hours per week, $12.00/hour. The CHS is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and the intern can choose to work flexible hours within this timeframe. The intern should be able to work at least three consecutive hours on a designated work day.
The FCD intern will assist in processing applications for programs, editing videos produced by the CHS, compiling and editing promotional materials, scanning documents, and providing other clerical and administrative assistance as required. Administrative duties may include but will not be limited to answering phones, sorting mail, mailing packages, and providing assistance to CHS visitors.
The FCD intern will also help serve as a correspondent and assistant editor for the Ancient Mediterranean Studies (AMS) Website. The intern’s role will be to aggregate, generate, and curate content for the site. This will include any of the following: maintaining the calendar of events; writing reviews of and photographing lectures, performances, exhibitions, and conferences; gathering and eliciting reviews of the like; and sharing the content of the website through social media outlets.
Qualifications and Eligibility
Applicants should be currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a Washington, DC area institution.
Applicants should have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must have completed at least one year of college by August 31. Good communicative and inter-personal skills, and the abilities to work both independently and as a member of a team are essential. Additionally, applicants should be comfortable learning and using new technologies and software.
Concentrators in any field may apply, but those with coursework and a strong interest in Classics will receive priority. Knowledge of either ancient or modern Greek is welcome and useful, but not necessary.
