The creation of the Museum of Mining and Metallurgy of Lavrion, costing € 2,686,500, is about to be realized with exclusive funding by the Prefecture of Attica, following the signing of the programme contract by the Prefecture of Attica, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Technical University of Athens.

As mentioned in the Prefecture’s announcement, creating the museum will contribute to the development of the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park, the cultural and tourist development of both the Municipality of the Lavreotiki and the greater area of East Attica and reinforce the metropolitan character of Attica.

The Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park has been successfully in operation since 2000,in an area of approximately 61.7 acres on the site of the former factory of the Compagnie Francaise des Mines du Laurium, in 12 restored industrial buildings.

It is an emblematic project and is part of the framework of synergies between the Prefecture, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the NTUA for the overall enhancement of the ancient and modern monuments of Lavreotiki.

The establishing of the Museum of Mining and Metallurgy of Lavrion is the next necessary step towards completing the project as a whole and promoting it internationally.
