An important temporary exhibition entitled “Limina” opened at the Byzantine and Christian Museum on Thursday, July 8, at 20.30. It is by the internationally recognized and award-winning Greek-Israeli photographer of architecture and landscape Erieta Attali.

Since January 2020, Erieta Attali has been Assistant Professor of Architectural Photography at the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture and the Cooper Union in New York, and she has also been Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore since January 2021.

Based in New York and Paris for the past two decades, the photographer has been dedicated to exploring the relationship between landscape and architecture in extreme conditions in the territories of Eurasia, Australia and the Americas and the way they are affected by climate change. In actual fact, through her photographic lens and in conditions where the phenomenon is actively displayed, Attali investigates the effect of the environment on humans who are forced to redefine the center in relation to the periphery as reflected in the dialogue between architecture and landscape.

After 30 years, the photographer Erieta Attali returns to the Byzantine and Christian Museum, paying tribute to this special place where she once did her internship. The present exhibition of photographs by Attali entitled “Limina”, includes 18 selected large format photographs on the theme of architecture as an integral part of the landscape. The exhibition is on the ground floor of the Palace of the Duchess of Placentia and on the outer walls of the buildings around the Museum’s central courtyard.

The exhibition of photographs is accompanied by a photo screening entitled “Immortalizing the Empty Stage. Paris in Lock down “, on the right side of the main building’s ground floor. In this screening, Attali presents her photographs of famous architectural landmarks of Paris taken on an iPhone during the restrictive measures due to the pandemic in 2020. For the first time, a historical moment has been captured in photographs of the City of Light deprived of human presence and its bustling and vibrant everyday urban character.

The screening is accompanied by a musical soundtrack from the album “Lontano” (ECM Records-16.10.2020: Cello Anja Lechner, Piano François Couturier).
