The International Training School in “The Epigraphic Text: from Context to Meaning” will be held on 5th-9th September 2022, online (Zoom Platform, 25 hours). Classes will be taught in English.

Undergraduate and graduate students, professors, staff and other professionals with research interests in Ancient History, Epigraphy, Archaeology, Philology and Linguistics and related fields are welcome to participate.

Further information and programme is available here: https://www.alteritas.it/training-school-the-epigraphic-text/

The Training School is aimed to lead students through the challenges posed by a selection of epigraphic texts, the meaning of which becomes transparent only if considered within their peculiar production and display context.

The introduction to the course will provide basic knowledge on the anthropology of writing, the writing act theory, and the different types of epigraphic support. The students will be firstly introduced to the various epigraphic cultures object of the training school, and secondly challenged with a series of case studies which provide contextualization of the problems posed by particular epigraphic texts.
