“Tutankhamun and Carter: Assessing the impact of a major archaeological find” will take place on 16th and 17th of February 2023, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.
The Colloquium aims at gathering scholars interested in the study of Egyptian collections and their recent history,
with a particular focus on the tomb of Tutankhamun, Howard Carter’s career, and his enrolment with art collectors.
Thematic areas:
We welcome proposals in the following thematic areas:
– Biographical studies on Carter and Carnarvon;
– Association between archaeology and media;
– Archaeological methods used by Carter in the tomb of Tutankhamun and its impact on research;
– Previous and current research on the find of Tutankhamun’s tomb;
– The impact of Tutankhamun’s find in contemporary popular culture.
This meeting is organized by the Centre for History of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon
and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, on the occasion of the 1st Centenary of the opening of Tutankhamun’s
burial chamber.
