A call for papers for the upcoming conference “Uncovering Abydos”, 5 December – 7 December at The British Council in Cairo has just been issued.

This hybrid three-day symposium aims to delve into the rich tapestry of archaeological endeavours undertaken at the site of Abydos over the course of 125 years. Papers are sought which will reflect the diverse research undertaken at Abydos over the past 125 years, and particularly papers which focus upon the following four research areas:
(1) archaeological knowledge production
(2) archaeological methods
(3) histories of archaeological labor, and
(4) conservation and restoration.

The symposium, sponsored by the Egypt Exploration Society, Penn Museum, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and the Centre of Documentation of Egyptian Antiquities, is intended to be a celebration of the work conducted but
also a point of critical reflection as we seek to understand the multiple histories of Abydos’ and how they will shape Abydos into the future.

For those interested in contributing to this timely and important conference, please email a 150-word abstract (in Arabic or English) to [email protected] no later than* 5pm (EEST) July 21, 2023.*
