The Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology at the University of Exeter invites expressions of interest from postdoctoral scholars and senior postgraduates in being considered for support in an application to the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships scheme, for fellowships starting in 2025. The fellowships provide support for a three-year project, working with a mentor in the department and taking a full part in the department’s research culture. Where relevant, applicants may wish to consider if their project aligns with one of our six research centres, comprising the Centres for Classical Reception, for Motion and Connectivity in the Ancient World, for the Study of Science, Technology, Ancient Medicine and Philosophy, for Hellenistic and Later Greek Studies, for Biblical Studies, and for the Study of the Christian East. Expertise in digital humanities is provided by Exeter’s Digital Humanities lab, which has a significant Classics and Ancient History leadership and presence, and may help with projects seeking to make use of digital methods or data; details here: Digital Humanities | Digital Humanities | University of Exeter.
The Exeter Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will be conducting an internal sift of candidates to decide which applications to support. You therefore need to submit an expression of interest by Friday 15th November, sending this as an email attachment to the departmental Co-Director of Research, Gabriele Galluzzo ([email protected]) and copied to the Faculty Research Cluster ( [email protected]). EOIs should include:
-A covering note explaining why you wish to hold a Fellowship within the identified Department or Research Group and relevance to your proposed research. You should also name your proposed mentor, and confirm they are supportive of your proposal.
-A 100-word abstract.
-A concise outline of the proposed research programme/plan of action (maximum 800 words).
-A summary of the intended outputs and a CV to include publications to date plus details of any grants, awards or other activities (including any previous, relevant, non-academic employment).
EOIs should be submitted as one document titled Leverhulme EOI_first name_last name.
