In 1960 the “Thracian Chronicles” were founded by Stefanos Ioannides. Stefanos Ioannides was an influential figure both in the “ Foundation for the Arts and Literature” as in the “Progressive Association of the city of Xanthi”. The “Thracian Chronicles” was a local paper, run by Thracian journalists. It was a quarterly with the subtitle “Research-Science- Arts”. Its logo was the griffin on a coin of Abdera. In 1972 the paper reappeared as a yearly publication with the subtitle of “Archaeology-History-Folklore-Research”. The journal aimed at promoting the artistic and historic wealth existing in Thrace.
