The decay of stone monuments is due to a combination of factors caused by nature and man. The task of dealing with this problem is hard if not unfeasible. The various “protection materials”, which in past decades had been considered as efficient, have today been proven, at least in their majority, unsuccessful, since progressively they create more problemes than they solve.

Therefore, we experience today a strong tendency towards more “traditional” stabilization materials, the search for new protection materials and the intention of treating the reason behind deterioration rather than the deterioration itself.
