The article is a presentation of Claude Mossé’s book with the same title. The historian Claude Mossé searches ancient Greek texts for the role played by women in the male dominated society of the 7th to the 4th century BC. The book also deals with the question of dowry and the role played by women in Gortyna specifically, whether in matters of religion or of love.
