The sources on which we based our conclusions about plants in achaeology in the past are a. linguistic studies and studies of written material and b. archaeological data. Such data could be divided into two basic categories, that of architectural information and of small artefacts/utensils. Here we have stressed the importance of studying the botanical data itself, which is found on excavations, and examples have been given on the type of economic/social information these can provide.
