The author cannot agree that the Malliaropoulio theatre and the neoclassical building of the Patras theatre are “the only theatres in all of southern Greece” ( the Archaeologia journal, issue no 12 “Ancient and contemporary theatres in Arcadia”). The author reminds us of the “Apollo” theatre (built in 1878) in the town of Pyrgos. The flourishing community of Pyrgos, belonging as it does to the provinces, is as well-known as a third world country would be had it owned a theatre. The theatre of Ermoupolis is only just starting to draw the public’s interest. However, the town’s spectacular “Apollo” theatre ought to be included in the list of the theatres of southern Greece.
