On September 15, 2025, in the historic center of Tivoli, near the church of Sant’Andrea, during fiber optic cable installation, a room with black and white mosaic flooring with a geometric pattern, dating back to the early imperial age, was uncovered.

Archaeologists were able to identify a sector of the ancient city of Tibur that was used for funerary purposes, probably in the Middle Ages. In addition to the mosaic floor, at least two tombs have emerged; the chronology of the burials will be clarified with further stratigraphic and laboratory investigations.

The discovery is located in an urban area already known for its wealth of evidence from different periods, including the imposing substructures in opus reticulatum of the so-called ‘terme di Diana’.
