After a long adventure involving progressive architectural planning, arguments between state authorities, financial implications and even one death, Acrotiri’s new roof seems functional and, according to a recent announcement, the site wil be accessible to the public after May 31.

The new, energy saving, roof of Acrotiri is designed to look like natural ground from outside, keeping the archaeological site underground. According to authorities, vegetation has started developing on the top of the roof, a sign that the plan is progressing according to the general design. Tourists will be able to visit the site following three alternative routes, designed for amateurs, specialists or disabled.
