The 2nd Meeting for the Archaeological Work in Crete has been completed with the publication of the Proceedings, consisting of a total of 64 papers. Scholars specialized in different fields, members of the Greek Archaeological Service, the Foreign Archaeological Schools as well as academic staff from various Universities, presented the results of their recent research, demonstrating the wide range of the archaeological activities conducted on the island.
With the 1st Circular, the Organising Committee announces the upcoming 3rd Meeting for the Archaeological Work in Crete. The Meeting, jointly organized by the 28th Ephorate of Byzantines Antiquities, the 25th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Crete, will be held in Rethymno, on December 6-8th, 2013.
Papers should not exceed 15 minutes. Posters are also welcome, and may be published in the form of complete papers in the final publication of the Proceedings. The official language of the Conference will be Greek and English.
The aim of the Meeting is to communicate the archaeological results of the past three years (2011-2013), to both scholars from different disciplines and to the wider audience. More specifically, the archaeological results include:
a. New findings from ongoing excavations and surveys,
b. Results of new research carried out on monuments,
c. Restoration and conservation, as well as rescue interventions on monuments and archaeological sites.
The Organizing Committee consists of the Directors of the Regional Services of the Ministry of Culture, as well as academic staff from the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Crete.
Interested participants are kindly requested to fill in the registration form, and send it with a short abstract of their paper to both [email protected] and by post to the 28th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, 214 Arkadiou Str., 74100 Rethymno, Crete (Attn: P. Varthalitou), no later than August 31th 2013.
