Six of the Cambridge University museums will be taking part in Museums at Night on May 16, as part of Culture 24’s annual national festival.
This year the Fitzwilliam Museum, Kettle’s Yard, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, The Polar Museum, the Museum of Classical Archaeology and the Whipple Museum will be taking part.
A spokeswoman said: “All this is free and is a rare opportunity to see the museums in a new light as they take on a new life after dark. This evening will be an opportunity to socialise with friends in a unique setting, surrounded by the world class collections of the University of Cambridge Museums.”
A vintage skiffle band will be performing at the Fitzwilliam and visitors to the Museum of Classical Archaeology can enjoy a glass of wine in the cast gallery whilst listening to talks.
Researchers will be on hand at the Whipple Museum to answer questions and science buskers will entertain crowds at the Polar Museum.
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology welcomes artists from Chile who will be display artwork including jewellery made from silver, wheat straw and dyed horsehair.
The Fitzwilliam Museum will open until 9pm, Kettle’s Yard from 5pm to 8pm and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology from 5pm to 9pm. The Polar Museum will open from 6pm to 8pm, Museum of Classical Archaeology from 6pm to 9pm and Whipple Museum from 6pm to 8pm.
