The “Société d’Études Latines de Bruxelles” (LATOMUS ) and the Seleukid Study Group (http://seleucid-genealogy.com/ssg.html) are organizing a joint workshop dedicated to “Rome and the Seleukid East”. The event will take place in Brussels, 21-23 August 2015.

The first part (21-22 August) will consist of a workshop for ca. eight PhD students and postdocs (up to two years after their viva); presenters will receive feedback by Prof. Dr. Altay Coşkun and Prof. Dr. David Engels. This will be followed by Seleukid Study Day V (22-23 August), which will assemble up to 10 further papers by international scholars from Europe and Northern America.

All students and postdocs that work in any field of Classical or Near Eastern Studies who are interested in the advertised topic are invited to contact the organizers. Their application should consist of the following:

– A short CV (English, French, Italian, German or Spanish),

– A brief description of their PhD project (English, French, Italian, German or Spanish),

– An abstract (250 to 400 words) of their planned paper; as is the case with the presentation itself, the abstract must be in either English or French.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts for the workshop is January 5, 2015.

Organizers do regret that they may not be able to cover travel expenses, though they do hope that a grant may be paid for most of the hospitality costs.
