Matiz-Gabo: The chroniclers of Macondo

At the Benaki Museum

The Embassy of Colombia in Rome accredited in Greece, the Honorary Consulate of Colombia in Athens and the Benaki Museum, present within the framework of the X Festival LEA (Literature in Athens), the photography exhibition “Matiz ~ Gabo: The chroniclers of Macondo”.

This exhibition reveals where the photographies of Leo Matiz meet the texts of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The legendary photographer and the leading representative of magical realism in literature, were born with a decade difference in Aracataca.

In the 40 photographs presented in the exhibition, the viewer will find that many decades before the invention of the fictional Macondo, the place and life there was a tangible reality. In combination with the texts, the fiction of writing is combined with the realism of the photographic lens.

The exhibition will run through July 29, 2018.
