About the Program
The purpose of the fellowship program is to encourage and support research of the highest quality on topics related to ancient Greek civilization. The proposed research may be approached through any discipline including, but not limited to, area and ethnic studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history, education, history, literary criticism, the natural and physical sciences, philology, philosophy, political science, religious studies, sociology, as well as related subfields.
The fellowship program aims to foster interaction among researchers from diverse backgrounds and regions of the world, and places an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches that reflect the evolving nature of Hellenic studies.
The program provides for flexibility in terms of residency at the CHS and levels of financial support. The fellowship program manager will work with successful candidates to determine the exact terms of their appointments.
Please note that the CHS will offer an Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies Program in Greece and Cyprus. The program aims to support researchers who are citizens or permanent residents of Greece and Cyprus, and whose work requires continued access to material on site (e.g. archives, artifacts, archaeological sites). Details are forthcoming in October 2019.
Researchers who have achieved a terminal degree in their discipline (e.g. PhD, MFA, EdD) are eligible to apply. Applicants must have defended their degree before July 1, 2019.
The CHS rigorously supports the principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity in its selection of fellows.
Applicants may not apply to both the Fellowships in Hellenic Studies Program in Washington, DC and to the Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies Program in Greece and Cyprus (details forthcoming) during the same application cycle.
